Logo final decision

Out of the other log ideas, it was decided that using this one would be better. This is because this log was more professional looking the the others, personally I believe that it was better to be left has black and white instead of adding colour and/or other images. This is because the majority of professional looking logos tend to have just the companies name instead of images.

Target Audiences Feedback- Rough Cut

Rough Cut:Editors feedback

Shivani: I believe in our rough cut there are few things that need to be changed, as it doesn't fit into the mosaic video editing point of view, such as when the male character is lip syncing  its not fitting into the scenes, and it gives a feeling that he didn't know the lyrics. Also, the way the character was position into the scene it doesn't look right. Also, when the music video ends it doesn't show if the both characters did get together in the end or not. Although, there are other scenes which look good in the music video, which give the music video an understanding of what the story-line is in the video. The rough cut also gives an idea of where the scenes will be located such as the imaginary scenes. However, I still need to change some scenes of the music video, to make it look better.

Rough Cut - Director's Feedback

Nikita: I'm mostly pleased with our music video at the moment. There are a few things that didn't look quite right and didn't fit my vision as director - there are some shots in the wrong order, a few shots that are shaky and otherwise unprofessional and so on. However, there are plenty of good things too. The story is mostly understandable already, although we're planning to use editing to make it clearer which parts are the imaginary scenarios, the lighting and mise-en-scene do very much fit the vision i started this project with and i do like the editing - especially the parts where the cuts or the shot fit the music. From here, we will get audience feedback and also possibly reshoot some of the shots, such as the lip syncing shots that don't look quite right.

Compare music videos of different genres

Music video evaluation

What went well and what would you improve next time?
The remake we did was ‘All About that Bass’ by Meghan Trainor, I think what we did well was getting the timings correct and in sync to the music video, however, the remake has a lot of room for improvement because we did not finish filming the entire remake because many people did not have time to do it after school so many parts of it is missing. What we should have do is organised a day to do the filming and complete the filming in a entire day to get it over and done with instead of doing a little each day which we clearly didn’t have enough time to do it like that.

Another thing I will have to do differently is choose a song that was simple so it would not take too long to film or if we kept ‘All About that Bass’ we could have managed our time better, so one thing I think I have to work on and help my group with is time management.
I would also improve on how quickly I edit the remake because I took too long to edit it, I will improve how quickly I edit by getting used to the editing software and learning short cuts for tools such as the cut tool which is what is used the most when editing, this will stop me from constantly asking people how to cut or move a clip and wasting time doing so.
The filming could have been improved by adjusting the settings of the camera to make it look less grainy. My knowledge of camera is not very good so I will have to practise using it before filming.
I think learning about exposure and lighting can help a lot when in come to the end product as our remake did not look like an actual music video and looked more like it a project or rough draft instead of a piece of work.

How do you feel about the equipment?
It was not very hard using the equipment or software but it wasn’t the simple, I am not very good at using the camera because I don’t know how to adjust the settings and what the settings do so maybe in the future I will learn what the settings do, I am going to improve my knowledge by using the camera and asking my friend who is good at using cameras.
The editing software Adobe Premiere Pro is not hard to learn, as it is simple to use. It also has much more advanced settings for those who know how to use the properly.
What I found easy about the software was that it has an easy to use cut tool, which allows accurate cutting of the clips.

How confident are you about editing?
I am very confident about editing because I find it simple and not hard to do, however, it takes a long time to edit depending on what you are editing.
To be more confident I have to improve my work rate and stop being distracted whilst editing.

What challenges will be different when it comes to filming your own music video

The challenges will be to make the music video suit the chosen genre and decide whether to follow the typical conventions of the genre or not to follow the conventions. We will also have to come up with new and original ideas that will also match the song. We will also have to get the shots spot on or it will not look as good as we expect.

Transition Cut evaluation

The transition cut is an obvious improvement to the rough cut as it has all the shots cut properly to fit the song. The transitions in the transition cut probably wont be the transition that makes it into the final cut because the fade to whites used to create a dream sequence does not look like a dream sequence more like a flashback so that will have to change. We also planned to re-shoot because our shots didn't look that great so we planned on doing them differently from the storyboard and original plan, we will also be changing the location to a closer library.

Rough cut evaluation

The rough cut for is obviously not very good and is used to just get the shots in order, there are many things that needs to change such as the length of some shots and removing/adding shots. The first lip sync scene doesn't really suit the idea I had, it was also hard to sync up with the song so I think i will remove it. The scene with the pan of the park was unnecessary especially with all the duck scene coming up soon after.

Transition Cut Evaluation

When making the transition cut we had noticed a big improvement in comparison to the rough cut. For example we used shots where the actors where ready. In the rough cut there was a shot of the actors at the museum waiting to walk. We had also noticed that there was little to none performance shots within the transition cut. When viewing, this looked out of place so we had decided to reshoot the entire library scene using the new school library which wasn't available for us at first. In doing this, we would be able to use it effectively in terms of being able to play the song out loud so that our actor can lip synch properly. We wasn't able to do this at first because of the noise it would make when we filmed in the public library. Also, the transitions used in the cut didn't seem to look like he was imagining a scenario. It looked more like a flashback. This will change when editing the video again.

Roughcut audience feedback

Evaluation
From the feedback, the audience responses suggest that the rough cut can be further improved. In the first question, "What needs to be improved?" the option that was chosen the most was Editing. Out of the 6/6 participants had voted for editing. 3/5 participants voted for camerawork. This could be because some of the shots used were shaky and/or not in focus. From this feedback, both camera work and editing need to be improved for the second draft.
In the second question "Is the narrative easy to understand?" all six participants had chosen yes. This means that the narrative doesn't need to be improved for the transition cut.
The third questions "Is the music video so far professional looking?" all participants and said no. This could be because in some of the shots, the actors had started walking a few seconds after the shot was recorded. When doing the second cut, the shots need to be edited so that the actors are not standing around for a few seconds before they start moving.
The fourth question "Would you recommend this music video to your friends?" the majority had stated that they wouldn't this could be because of the editing and camerawork previously mentioned. This will be improved for the transition cut for the music video. However, a few of the participants and stated that they would share this video with their friends.
The final question asking the participants to rate the question had all given the music video one out of five stars. This shows that a lot of improvement is needed for our transition cut.

Rough cut evaluation

The draft of this music video has a number of things in which needs to be fixed. For example in some of the shots, the artist and actor can be seen waiting to walk. Also some of the shots are very shaky and the camera can be seen moving. However the rough cut does tell the narrative and can be understood by audiences. This general understanding will allow audiences to be able to follow the narrative of the music video. The lighting of the scenes in the museum park and library are natural which is good as the narrative of the music video fits into this. During the performance scenes, the artists doesn't seem to be lip syncing to the music. This error in editing will be fixed for the final cut. Doing this is important as it will look more professional.
