Week 1
Created a remake of Meghan Trainor's music video "all about the bass." Whole class participated as it was a preliminary task. Used knowledge from AS to help us do this. We arranged for actors to come in and film certain shots. We used the school to film as we had easy access to areas like the playground. The class created individual edits of the remake on premiere pro 5.5.
Week 2
Groups were established, my group consisted of: Matthew, Shivani and Nikita. I was the producer. We began to think of ideas for out group name and logo. After the process of elimination, we decided that the group name would be, Northwest records. After each coming up with a logo idea, we discussed who's logo to use and decided that Matthew's logo idea was better. During this week, we also came up with potential songs that we could use. After deciding on the songs, we decided on Leon Bridges, Better Man as our song choice. Roles were also established during this week.
Week 3
The group was deciding on ideas for the music video during the beginning of the week, in the end once we had our idea we began to research into the genre to find out conventions that would help us make the music video after this I created presentations using Powtoon and Emaze. Once this was done we created a storyboard draft for our music video. With this draft shot lists were created that included timings of each scene and the settings for each scene. I also researched into our target audience by using YouGov to help me understand the kinds of things they would expect and/or like.
Week 4
Risk assessments were created for when we were shooting. This helped us to know the way in which things may go wrong and allowed us to be more cautious when filming. I had researched into student music video's to help me understand the different ways to produce the music video. It also allowed me to spot any mistakes within their videos and I made sure that we don't make the same mistakes. It also allowed me to have an idea of what to expect.
Week 5
I began to research into the different locations that we could use, I made a timeline to organise the scenes. I went to the museum location and took pictures so my group and I could refer to them. The whole group had conducted the test shoot at the library. This test shoot revealed to us that the exposure for the video was too high. Without a test shoot we wold have wasted a lot of time at the location.
Week 6
I conducted more research into our genre. I also created a vox pop where I played my target audience the song and asked them their thoughts and what they would expect in a music video with this song. This helped to give us ideas as well as change anything that needed to be changed.
Week 7
We started filming.
Week 8
After the filming process, we discovered that the shots taken were not in focus and were shaky. The library and Museum scenes were then filmed again.
Week 9
Once filming had finished. We decided that it would be better to split up, I grouped up with Matthew and we both created an edit for us. When editing, we firstly edited together a rough cut, in the rough cut we put together potential clips.
Week 10
After receiving feedback from the other two group members, we decided not to use certain shots when editing, we also conducted audience feedback after the rough cut to help us when making the transition cut.
Week 11
We began to create the transition for our music video. This cut included transitions that would fit the narrative, for example we used a fade to white to show the imaginary scenes of the music video. During this stage we began to explore other areas of premier pro. For example we went through the different ways we could contrast and insert a variety of colours in the music video. In the end, we settled for a pink hue/filter in each imaginary scene as we thought it would emphasise the imaginary setting.
Week 12
The transition cut was posted. We asked audiences for feedback. We updated the storyboard after filming and posted a video of it on the blog.
In this week I began to conduct research in to the ancillary. I researched into the different types of music video institutions. In this week we also decided on the logo for the ancillary products.
Week 14
I researched into poster, digipak and website for my ancillary. Doing this helped me to decide what two products I wanted to make.
Week 15
After all the research for the ancillary, We finally finished the final cut for out music video.
Week 16
I began to make the website using Tumblr. I began to find different themes that I could use and tried my best to code my own themes. Using tumblr will allow me to connect with my target audience. However, I found that when making my website on this it was difficult to make as I didn't understand fully how to make the website. Also some of the themes that Tumblr had to offer didn't interest me and/or was what I was looking for.
Week 17
I began to use Wix for my website
Week 18
Once I posted the final website, I began to make a digipak plan of what I wanted in the digipak. After this I went on Photoshop and placed a digipak template and began to create this.
Week 19
I created several drafts of the digipak and asked audiences for feedback. The first drafts had a lot of touching up to do. For example some pf the pictures used didn't really fit. So I checked my camera roll for photos that I had taken. I found a picture of when I was on a plane and thought that using this for the front cover would suit as it's called "Leaving Home."
Week 20
Completed digipak by following audiences responses. Posted on to blog.
