Production Log - Shivani

Week 1

The first week we had to create a remake of a music video called Megan Taylor All about that bass, everyone participated for this preliminary which would involve everyone in the class.in this process, we had to take various shots similar to the music video. we had to take several shots for the remake of the music video, however, some members of the class did not participate in the making. So I had to find different actors by other school members that were willing to help by doing this I would have a complete music video.

After having all the shots together I had to edit it on by myself on premiere pro 5.5. this was really helpful as it would improve my editing skills and I go to know more about the software by using multiple transitions within the music video.

Week 2

We were put into different groups to create a music video, my group included me, Nikita, Matthew and Nasima. In this week we had to decide a name for our production company and logo. each of us had to come with a production name and a logo. As a group, we choose Northwest records for our company name and choose Matthews logo as it was simple and the best. Also, we did research into different music videos, what makes them successful and successful, etc.

Week 3

Within ourselves, we had to come up with two music videos (initial ideas) and decide which one we would prefer to create. I created a mood board and further research into the music video, which allowed me to gain various ideas for our music video.

Week 4

We choose the music video Better man by Leon Bridges, we had to decide how we would create our music video each of the members in our group came up with different ideas this was really hard decision to decide who's was the best so we thought how it would be effective for us in terms of location, costume and props. Then we choose Nikita's idea as we would prefer the story line and location setting.  I, therefore, starting doing some research on the codes and conventions of our music video genre and looked at the genre target audiences.

Everyone had different roles in the construction of the music video, I believe I had a very important role, which was to edit the scenes and put them together to make a clips, as I done a lyrics breakdown to this gave me a deeper understanding of editing techniques I would be using when editing my final cut. I, therefore, starting doing some research on the codes and conventions of our music video genre and looked at the genre target audiences.

Week 5

I had to write a release form for permission to use the specific locations that were needed in the music video I also did the characters release forms to allow me to record them with their permission, also I found some actors and done casting, to find our female and male actor for our music video.

In this week we decided our music video which was "Better Man" and my group and I also created a risk assessment for our shoot days, to know about any risks that may occur. In this week I conducted research from my target audiences, by having them listen to Better Man, which gave me several ideas on how to produce my music video by including narrative and performance. Also, I looked at other successful music videos, to help me decide on a narrative and performance based music videos that would attract my target audiences. My group and I also created a production schedule for our filming process.

Week 6

I had to do breakdowns on each of the soul music genre artists to know about the codes and conventions they use in their music videos. Nikita and I went also to check our music video locations for a test shoot. This was beneficial for us as a group as it allowed us to know about out locations and know about any inconvenience that may be caused during our filming process.

Week 7

We finished our location recce and decided into the different locations we were going to use.
After filming our Test shoot we had to make specific changes, such as when Ritik and Zeel were filmed at the park and Museum, as it didn't match the other scene and it wouldn't blend it well.

We also started filming in this week.  During the filming processes, I did a photoshoot for our artist Ritik, as we needed images to put into our ancillary tasks.

Week 8

Most of the shots were out of focus and were not stabled. This is why we went to film some scenes again in some locations such as the library and the park. We also recorded new scenes again to make our music video look interesting and follow our storyline by using mise-en-scene to follow the narrative.

Week 9

Me and Nikita re-filmed some of the shots as they were very shaky and were not focused. Nikita and I and Mathew and Nasima decided to do different edits for our music video.

Week 10

After, receiving all the shots me and Nikita finished filming this week and started editing our rough cut, in this stage we couldn't use any transitions as we only had to put all the shots into premier pro to give us an idea of our music video but also receive feedback from our target audiences, which would allow us to improve our product.

Week 11

I uploaded the rough cut and receiving feedback from our audiences we started creating the transition cut for our music video, our audiences didn't understand the concept of our music videos, as they didn't realise about the imaginary flashbacks that we added. To make the scenes look more realistic and follow our storyline, we started to follow our audience's feedback and added blur and a pinkish filter into our imaginary scenes to make the audiences realise about the concept and the idea of our artist imagining both of the characters together in different locations.

To create filter into my scenes to look like dreamlike sequences I did some research into the use of colours used in my genre, which I could effectively add into my music video. This was really important, as we wanted our audiences to understand the story behind our music video.

Week 12

I uploaded our transition cut. To create my ancillary products I had to take further research into my genre artist digipaks and websites, I started analysing artists websites and digipaks to know about the codes and conventions used in the products, which I had to include in my ancillary tasks.

I received feedback from my target audiences for my transition cut to produce my final cut.  This week I and Nikita also went to film again some scenes that were missing as we altered our performance locations in the library as it didn't look smooth and the lip syncing wasn't matching the lyrics.

Week 13

To create my ancillary products I had to take further research into my genre artist digipaks, poster and websites. I recreated Jessy J poster to understand the photoShop software and the tools provided in the software, which would allow me to create my digipak. This was like a tutorial to increase my knowledge and skills, that I will need during the creation of my storyboard.

In the end we had to  two ancillary tasks I chose the website and digipack, so I started analysing artists websites and digipaks to know about the codes and conventions used in the products, which I had to include in my ancillary tasks. I also started planning my ancillary products I drew out a rough-cut design for my digipak, this would help me during the process of the creation of my digipak.

Week 14

This week we added the improved scenes and particular changes by following our final storyboard into our transition cut. I started creating my own digipak for my artist Ritik! I did this by downloading a specific template. I wanted my digipack to be different from others, so I choose a template where the CD part wasn't in the centre as I could make it look more creative and different from others.

Week 15

I created the first draft of my digipak, this week, by following the codes and conventions of my genre. After, creating the digipack, I started creating the other ancillary task which was the website.

Week 16

Nikita and I discussed our audiences feedback, we came to know about that our audiences don't understand the narrative of our music video, so we had to add different effects and transitions to allow our audiences to realise about the storyline and dreamlike sequences. I also started making my artists website using Wix.

I presented my digipack to my target audiences to receive their feedback and make improvements into my products. I also created the first draft of my website!

Week 17

After conducting research from our audiences, we wanted to create a pinky effect into the dreamlike sequences to allow our audiences to release about the different scenes. Nikita and I looked at different Premier Pro techniques that would allow us to add an effect, we did this by using saturation to create the pink filter and colour grading to adjust the pink.

I also improved my digipak (draft 2) and presented my website to my target audiences to receive improvements and make necessary changes.

Week 18

We uploaded our final cut of our music video. There were minor changes to be added on the digipack such as the font and the layout. I made this changes and made it as my 3rd draft (Digipak) and started working on my website to make some changes according to my audiences feedback.

Week 19

I uploaded my final Digipak and presented my Draft 2 of my website to my audiences.

Week 20

There were only a few tweaks to do for my website, which I did as it didn't take long and posted it as my final Website! However, I still wanted to do better so I made changes into my digipak such as the filter and on the website, I changed the Home buttons as they were visible.
